Congratulations to Jackson Lavertu for Winning Gold at the SkillsUSA Competition
Jackson Lavertu (GHS class of '27) was nominated by his instructor at WRVC to compete at SkillsUSA this weekend. This is a competition that hosts over 1,000 students who are invited to showcase their vocational skills and talents in front of a panel of judges. The winners are awarded a Bronze, Sliver, or Gold Medal.
Jackson attends WRVC in the Building Trades. He is only in10th grade and competed amongst many upperclassmen. He won GOLD for the cabinet making competition. Below is the competition description for that category:
CABINETMAKING
Competitors build a small cabinet or piece of furniture from the supplied materials and drawings. Competitors are expected to read the drawings, lay out, create a cut list, and cut the parts using a variety of tools including, but not limited to, the following: table saw, miter saw, drill, hinge boring machine, and various hand tools. The parts must be accurately assembled, sanded, and adjusted to tolerances specified by the judges.
